Our Kindness Project continues!  This month we are celebrating Gender Equality!  See below for specific events.

Touch-A-Truck!

Saturday, March 25th from 10 am to 1 pm

We have nothing to do with this event but it is one of the coolest, child-friendly things a family can do. Information can be found here. Please note that this year it is being held in the north parking lot of the East Lake MARTA Station. Thanks, City of Decatur, for doing this every year!

Strong Girls Event!

Sunday, March 26th at 2 pm

Strong Girls is excited to visit Little Shop of Stories during Women’s History Month on March 26th. Using Kate Beaton’s book, The Princess and the Pony, as a springboard, they will provide a workshop for girls and boys to help them honor differences, break stereotypes and be grateful for what gifts they have and receive. Our workshop will combine creative arts, fun activities and yoga and meditation.

Strong Girls is an Athens, GA based organization for elementary and middle school girls looking for a stronger and more positive peer support system to navigate the pressures of adolescence. Strong Girls groups combine developmental activities, creative arts, and yoga. Girls gain physical strength training through yoga while learning relevant and valuable lessons that vary from class to class. Our classes are designed to inspire feelings of love and acceptance for the self and body. Girls will gain new tools that will increase inner and outer strength, love, and focus.

Kindness Project Book Club!

Monday, March 27th at 6:30 pm

The Kindness Project is all about exploring ideas of community and compassion through books, and with the Kindness Project book club we invite families to read a book together so we can talk about different experiences every month. This month we are talking about gender equality, and our book is The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate by Jacqueline Kelly.  It’s the turn of the century and young Calpurnia is the only sister in her rough and tumble family of brothers.  Her mother wants her to be a proper young lady and sets out to groom her for marriage.  But Callie has different ideas about what it means to be a girl in the world!

Roshani Chokshi Author Event!

Tuesday, March 28th at 7 pm

We are thrilled to once again be hosting the launch of one of our favorite local authors! Roshani Chokshi proved herself an author to watch with her young adult fantasy debut last spring, The Star-Touched Queen. Debuting at #4 on the New York Times bestseller list, the novel received rave reviews from fans and critics alike and appeared on the most buzzed about lists of 2016. Chokshi once again writes a beautifully crafted story of adventure, love, and magic set in the Star-Touched world with her sophomore novel A CROWN OF WISHES. Building on her intricate setting based on ancient India and Greek mythology, her follow-up is a novel spun from enchantment with a strong female heroine, and a swoon worthy prince, who team up to win back the thrones of their kingdoms.
