Children’s Book Week

April 29th  – May 5th

It’s Children’s Book Week all across America this week! This is the 100th anniversary of Children’s Book Week, the longest running national reading campaign in the country!

This week – from April 29 to May 5 – over 1,200 schools, libraries, and bookstores are celebrating Children’s Book Week from coast to coast in all 50 states with events and activities all week. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Read Now. Read Forever” and you can still go online at EveryChildaReader.net and print out cool bookmarks, activities in several languages, and more.

Celebrity Voice Storytime!

Wednesday, May 1st  – 7 pm

Imagine Christopher Walken reading Green Eggs and Ham or Marisa Tomei (think My Cousin Vinnie) reading Where the Wild Things Are…join us as our booksellers read beloved classics with a twist.

Indeed, Little Shop bookseller Madison and Little Shop family member Raph have been cultivating celebrity impressions for years, and they are ready to take it to the next level: STORY TIME. Join us for a super fun evening for kids AND adults to celebrate Children’s Book Week with some of the greatest voices of all time! Guests will also include Julie Andrews, and even Mark Twain, BACK FROM THE DEAD.

This event is FREE and open to the public!

Thank-O-Rama Bus Tour!

Saturday, May 4th  – 4 to 6 pm at the Decatur Library

The beloved characters of Mo Willems are hitting the road to engage book lovers across America in 2019! Little Shop is so excited that Decatur is a stop on this epic bus tour. We are partnering with the Decatur Library, just around the corner from the shop, to bring you an afternoon of fun! The bus will be set up in front of the library, and you can come by anytime between 4:00 and 6:00. See below for more information on the activities offered. This event is FREE, open to all, and perfect for the whole family!


  • Mo Willem’s Character Photo Op – a backdrop with iconic Mo Willems’ characters where kids and parents can pose for a photo with Elephant and Piggie costume characters and take home an autographed headshot!
  • Reading Corner – colorful, kid-sized bean bag chairs and plush rugs along with character standees to create a Mo Willems themed reading corner.
  • Craft Station – kid-sized tables and colorful rugs with character-inspired activity sheets. Don’t Let Pigeon Drive the Bus 16th anniversary hats will also be available for guests to celebrate!
  • Thank-o-Rama Prize Wheel – a table-top sized prize wheel offering event attendees the opportunity to spin and take home a prize!

Roshani Chokshi Author Event!

Saturday, May 4th  – 7 pm

Roshani Chokshi: Making Atlanta Proud Since Forever. We love Roshani so much, and we know that YOU love Aru Shah and the End of Time. Well, Aru is BACK, and so is Roshani! We are thrilled to host her on her tour for Aru Shah and the Song of Death, the second book in her fabulous series! Learn more about this installment below. Saturday, May 11th  – 11 am at the Gazebo on Decatur Square

Atlanta author and Little Shop favorite Laurel Snyder has written the third volume in her Charlie & Mouse series, and it’s the PERFECT Mother’s Day book! We are thrilled to bring her to Decatur Square as part of the Mother’s Day Pop Up on Saturday, May 11. Laurel will be reading, crafting, and signing starting at 11:00. If weather doesn’t cooperate, we will move back into the shop, but we are hopeful for a lovely author event outside! We will be selling copies of Charlie & Mouse Even Better in the shop and out on the square. Learn more about the new book below! They will be exhibiting works and selling prints here at Little Shop. In addition, Mike Lowery is a prolific children’s book illustrator, and we will have his books for sale– you can even get him to sign it if you like!
