Sunday’s Very Grand Finale with Harry and the Potters!

What would happen if Harry Potter quit the quidditch team, stole a time turner, and started a punk rock band with himself from an earlier point in the space-time continuum? The answer is Harry and the Potters.

Since 2002, brothers Paul and Joe DeGeorge (Harry Potter, Year 7 and Year 4 respectively) have released three full-length albums and played over 800 shows in libraries, rock clubs, art spaces, bookstores, basements, backyards, and pizza places all over the world. Their high-energy live show has been legend for over a decade since Pitchfork placed the band in their Best Live Shows of 2005 list noting, “the greatest rock and roll tour of the year took place this past summer in public libraries across America… The Decemberists wish they could lit-rock like this.” They are hailed as the founders of wizard rock, a sub-genre of music boasting nearly 1000 bands playing songs about the Harry Potter books. In 2005, they co-founded the Harry Potter Alliance, a non-profit organization that has pioneered fan activism, and the band was profiled in the 2008 documentary, We Are Wizards. They also appear on a Trivial Pursuit card in Sweden.

MORE ON PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE

Someone will shoot. And someone will die.

People kill people. Guns just make it easier.

A gun is sold in the classifieds after killing a spouse, bought by a teenager for needed protection. But which was it? Each has the incentive to pick up a gun, to fire it. Was it Rand or Cami, married teenagers with a young son? Was it Silas or Ashlyn, members of a white supremacist youth organization? Daniel, who fears retaliation because of his race, who possessively clings to Grace, the love of his life? Or Noelle, who lost everything after a devastating accident, and has sunk quietly into depression?

One tense week brings all six people into close contact in a town wrought with political and personal tensions. Someone will fire. And someone will die. But who?

People Kill People will start a discussion about a topic that is tearing this country apart.

Roderick hates going to bed, and the young boy has become quite resourceful in coming up with ways to delay the dreaded hour when the lights must go out. Roderick’s loving parents–fed up with the distractions and demands that have become his anti-bedtime ritual–decide to get him a stuffed animal to cuddle with and help him wind down. However, Sleepy quickly proves to be a bit high-maintenance. Just when we fear the night may never end, Sleepy’s antics become too exhausting for Roderick to bear.

AUTHOR’S NOTE:
“I am sharing my experience of this transition as the mother who gave birth to this beautiful, brave, and wondrous child. My hope is that by sharing my experience, the door will be opened to many other mothers to accept and not fear accompanying their child on this journey with love, grace, and respect.

As mothers we are purveyors of grace for our children. We are conduits of God’s grace and mercy. Through our unconditional love we can move with our children as they find and reveal themselves, all the while easing their fears. I share my experiences with this transition because I know there are others out there who might be needing some hope, some understanding, and some way of finding their faith in the midst of such a transition.”

Daphne Reiley is a woman of deep faith, a wife, a mother, a spiritual director, and a servant leader within her home congregation of First Christian Church of Decatur, Georgia (Disciples of Christ). Daphne was led to write Love, Then Listen as she realized so many parents, especially mothers, were struggling with how to faithfully support their child as the child lived into their true gender.
